Business Development Manager

The Watershed Company has earned a reputation as one of the leading regional specialty design and environmental firms in the Pacific Northwest with more than 40 years of experience in natural resource evaluation and assessment, landscape architecture, restoration design, environmental and long-range planning, permitting, and urban forestry.

Our team is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to manage, oversee, facilitate, and implement business development strategies. Gather, analyze, and compile data needed to identify trends and patterns, then make recommendations for business actions. Successful candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished scientists, planners, engineers, arborists, and landscape architects in a growing employee-owned company based in Kirkland, Washington. In addition to our Kirkland office, we have several offices conveniently located throughout the Puget Sound area, including:

• Seattle

• Mount Vernon

• Whidbey Island

• Federal Way

Primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Gathers business intelligence from a variety of sources including company data, industry and field reports, public information requests, or purchased sources to maximize current staff, resources, and business development opportunities.

  • Uses business intelligence data and tools to identify and monitor current and potential customers, opportunities, and market trends.

  • Develops and strengthens internal and external relationships that will lead to increased lead generation.

  • Expands the profile and reach of the company and its brand.

  • Manages and tracks sales, leads marketing, customer-service, and client relationship management systems.

  • Utilizes data to assess and guide new business strategies.

  • Identifies markets, market types, and methods to improve sales to existing and potential clients by analyzing industry trends.

  • Maintains current knowledge of industry and business trends through communication with professional organizations, subconsultants, clients, competitors, and other informed individuals.

  • Summarizes financial and economic data reports for review by board members.

  • Manages active pursuits, including leading responses to competitive bid proposals and marketing efforts (i.e., RFQ/RFP).

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to collect and compile relevant industry data and trends.

  • Extremely organized with great attention to detail.

  • Excellent ability to analyze information and think systematically.

  • Strong business analysis skills.

  • Works well independently and as part of a team.

  • Thorough understanding of the company’s business processes and the industry at large.

  • Ability to handle databases and understand technology-driven business intelligence tools.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Self-motivated, highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to juggle competing demands and identify critical path.

  • Desire to work specifically in an environmentally focused practice.

  • Advanced to expert level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suit and Adobe InDesign.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated and proven success in achieving and exceeding sales targets.

  • 3+ years of proposal experience for an environmental design, landscape architecture, or multi-disciplinary firm.

  • Proven ability to propose and develop strategic partnerships.

  • Experience in researching and identifying new markets.

  • Knowledge of customer-facing web platforms and digital experiences (website agent).

Salary and Benefits:

Salary rage is 90k - 120k and depends on experience and qualifications. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, commuting assistance, continuing education, performance bonuses, retirement program with future company match, and opportunities for growth, promotion, and ownership.
