Environmental planner - Geology knowledge

The Watershed Company, a regional leader in science-based planning and design for environmental restoration, is seeking experienced candidates within the fields of environmental planning and permitting, with an emphasis in geology, planning, and geology. Successful candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished scientists, planners, engineers, arborists, and landscape architects in a growing a nearly 40-year-old employee-owned company based in Kirkland, Washington. In addition to our Kirkland office, we have several offices conveniently located throughout the Puget Sound area, including:

• Seattle

• Mount Vernon

• Whidbey Island

• Federal Way

Duties and Expectations

  • Coordination with project applicants, engineers, architects and agency staff to ensure project permit feasibility

  • Preparation of environmental permits and documentation, including Section 404/401, HPA, shoreline, critical area permits, SEPA/NEPA, and preparation of Environmental Impact Statements

  • Assist project teams in areas of comprehensive planning, shoreline master program updates, and critical areas ordinance updates, including review of best available science.

  • Assist with development of environmental policy and regulations that protects natural resources in concert with the interests of people and communities to create sustainable solutions

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to use standard computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Interacting and communicating with clients, regulators, and staff at all levels

  • Ability to juggle competing demands and identify critical path

  • Occasional travel in locations across the Pacific Northwest

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Desired Experience

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience performing above duties

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental science, or a related field

  • Strong background in geology is preferred

  • Experience with local, state, and federal permitting

  • Ability to work cooperatively on multidisciplinary projects

  • Experience in oral presentations
