Human Resources Manager

The Watershed Company, a growing science-based planning and design firm, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager. Successful candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished scientists, planners, engineers, arborists, and landscape architects in a 35-year-old employee-owned company headquartered in Kirkland, Washington.

Watershed’s team provides a wide range of design and planning services for both private and public clients with an emphasis on native habitat restoration, mitigation, sustainable design, and low impact development. It also designs and prepares construction document packages for a variety of projects, including transportation facilities, public facilities, private residences, parks, trails, streetscapes, utilities, and commercial developments.  

Primary responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Partner with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy, particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, and retention.

  • Provide support and guidance to management and staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.

  • Assist with onboarding, offboarding, and employee performance review process; maintain employee personnel files.

  • Manage the talent acquisition process, including recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants; track status of applications and manage candidate communications; collaborate with managers and staff to understand skills and competencies required for openings.

  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; research and propose competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.

  • Track and coordinate learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.

  • Maintain compliance with third-party safety and payment/contract processing vendors.

  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

  • Annual review of medical/dental/vision benefit contracts.

  • Maintain pay plan and benefits program.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

  • A minimum of three years of human resource management experience preferred.

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly desired.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Experience with Ajera software is a plus.
