VEGETATION MANAGEMENT CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR

Vegetation Management Construction Coordinator 

The Watershed Company, a regional leader in science-based planning and design for environmental restoration, is seeking mid-level candidates within the fields of arboriculture, landscape horticulture, and landscape construction management. Successful candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished scientists, planners, engineers, arborists, and landscape architects in a growing 39-year-old employee-owned company based in Kirkland, WA.

This position will be a key member of Watershed’s vegetation management team serving the large, ongoing, utility and infrastructure projects around the Pacific Northwest Region. The Vegetation Management Construction Coordinator will primarily support ongoing vegetation management duties. Applicants must demonstrate five years of related experience.

Duties and Expectations:

  • Interpret landscape plans, specifications, and construction documents generated by landscape architects, general contractors, and vendors.

  • Generate plant orders in coordination with clients, subcontractors, and wholesale plant nurseries.

  • Coordinate plant material procurement, inventory, and delivery with wholesale plant nurseries and landscape installation contractors.

  • Inspect plant materials to ensure quality and facilitate replacements as needed.

  • Assist with on-site plant layout and communication with property owners and project team to ensure materials needed to complete landscape installation are provided (e.g., soil amendments, mulch, etc.).

  • Attend on-site project meetings and act as a liaison between field staff and in-house staff.

  • Track plant installation progress, secured plant inventory, and plant care of trees/shrubs stored at project holding nursery.

  • Manage ongoing list of landscape restoration projects across many sites/jurisdictions (hundreds of private property owners).

  • Communicate with landowners about installation of approved landscape plans. 

  • Provide homeowner education about ongoing tree care and watering needs.

  • Assist with project database tracking and data entry.

  • Assist with monitoring of landscape installations of restoration mitigation sites.

  • Attend weekly team meetings.

  • Ability to work in highly flexible, team-oriented environment.

  • Other duties as assigned which may include the following:

    • Perform tree inventories, tree assessments and report writing for public and private clients.

    • Review and comprehend civil, architectural, and landscape architectural plans, details, and specifications for conflicts with trees.

    • Prepare tree preservation plans and details.

    • Write tree preservation specifications.

    • Monitor and document tree impacts and protection during construction administration.

Required Experience:

  • 5 years of experience performing above duties.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in landscape horticulture, landscape architecture, construction management, arboriculture, urban forestry, or related field. Higher education may substitute for years of experience.

  • Knowledge and experience with identification of and cultural growing requirements of ornamental and Pacific Northwest vegetation and sustainable landscaping practices.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (testing may be required).

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

  • Demonstrated ability to use standard computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Desired Experience

  • ISA Certified Arborist

  • Knowledge or experience in managing vegetation within utility corridors.

  • Experience working with multiple project partners, public and private landowners, and community stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with field data collection using ESRI based collection tools such as Field Maps, ArcCollector or similar tool.

  • Experience with computer aided drafting software (AutoCAD, BIM)

  • Experience using and maintaining databases.
