Clear Creek Interpretive Trail

The Watershed Company worked with Kitsap County Public Works to design and implement an interpretive program of twelve wayside exhibits and six plant identification plaques that would inspire and educate citizens about the Clear Creek Restoration Project and its success. Interpretive themes focused on the importance and lifecycle of salmon, as well as Clear Creek’s unique history and ecology. Several exhibits recall the ecological and cultural achievements of the Clear Creek restoration project, such as why and how floodplain restoration projects are undertaken, aiming to inspire public confidence and support. Several exhibits feature interactive components, like spinning panels and tactile elements, to engage visitors beyond the interpretive text and illustrations.

Clear Creek is a major stream system flowing into Dyes Inlet in Silverdale, Washington. Historically, Creek Creek was a functional floodplain and productive salmon-bearing stream, but it became severely constrained over decades of development. To restore its native ecology and vital functions the floodplain once provided, the County removed 1,500 feet of an existing road, replaced and upgraded two aging culverts, created 500 feet of new stream channel, and restored 30 acres of floodplain and riparian habitat.
