KALAKALA in flight
DCG/Watershed was the prime landscape architect for the design of a new park on the Cross Kirkland Corridor (CKC). The new park includes artistic elements inspired by the CKC’s railway history and Kirkland’s tradition of transportation innovation.
Kalakala In Flight is a public sculpture that celebrates the legacy of the Kalakala—a historic ferry named after a Chinook word for “flying bird.” The images below show the process of designing this sculpture, using remnants of the original ferry as inspiration and material.
